16 Adventurous Things to Do in Page Arizona
The first time I stayed in Page Arizona many years ago (pre-travel blog), I was on a family boating trip. We played hard all day on Lake Powell and came back to our hotel to sleep. And that was that. We had a great time. But I had no idea that there were so many other awesome things to do in Page Arizona! I remember seeing a picture of Horseshoe Bend on Instagram a few years later for the first time and I thought, “Whoa! Where is that?!” Turns out it was five minutes from the hotel we stayed at all those years ago. Facepalm. Travel fail. I swore I’d never let that happen again and I’ve now explored some super rad things in the small town of Page. It may only have a population of 7,500 people but this tiny town punches way above its weight. I’ve compiled the top sweet 16 adventurous things to do in Page Arizona.
1. Best Things To Do in Page Arizona – Water Sports on Lake Powell
The main draw for most people visiting Page is Lake Powell. Take on the open water with wake surfing, jet skiing, tubing, or seek out the calmer canyons for waterskiing and wakeboarding. There are some priceless water experiences if you go at the right time of day or find the right spot – Lake Powell is famous for its glassy smooth, warm water. All of this couples with those iconic sandstone cliffs makes for some epic adventures. And you don’t have to be a boat owner to enjoy it. There are several places in town or at the marinas where you can rent boats or wave runners. It goes without saying that water sports on Lake Powell is one of the best things to do in Page Arizona.
Check out our budget-friendly guide to Lake Powell for tips on how to have affordable adventures on the water.
2. Lake Powell Boat Tour
Taking a Lake Powell boat tour is one of the best things to do in Page Arizona for non-boat owners. It’s a good alternative if you still want to get on the water and see what the scenery has to offer. And you won’t regret it because the scenery is incredible. There are multiple options out of Wahweap Marina. You could choose from a 90-minute scenic tour through Wahweap Bay to Glen Canyon Dam or a 3-hour tour to see Navajo Canyon as well as other options.
3. Best Things To Do in Page Arizona – Antelope Canyon Tour
This is quite possibly the most famous slot canyon in the world and it sits just a few minutes outside of Page in the Navajo Nation. Because it’s on Navajo land, the only way to hike through it is to pay for a permit and take a tour.
There are three different parts of the canyon you can tour:
- Upper Antelope Canyon – during peak hours this tour costs more than a day at Disneyland and is the most expensive option. But it’s also the only one with the famous light beams you see in photos. Be sure to go around noon if you want to see them, just know it is the most expensive and popular time. You can go earlier or later in the day to save money but you won’t see light beams.
- Lower Antelope Canyon – at half the price of Upper Antelope, your first thought might be to question if it’s any good compared to the other one. It’s still stunning! And here’s a pro tip: go in the morning for the best lighting for photos and fewest crowds. Here’s everything you need to know about booking a Lower Antelope Canyon tour.
- Antelope Canyon X – the least well-known and cheapest of the bunch, but still very awe-inspring. This is the best option if you don’t want to deal with throngs of tourists.
Taking a shot like this had been on my bucket list for a long time! Not only is Antelope Canyon one of the best things to do in Page Arizona, it’s a must-have for any bucket list, even if you’re not a wannabe photographer like me. There just aren’t many places like it in the world, especially as accessible as this one.
4. Rent Kayaks from Antelope Point Marina
If water sports like water skiing and wakeboarding aren’t your thing, you could try something a little more low impact like kayaking or paddleboarding. There are many places in Page that rent them or you can rent directly at Antelope Point Marina. The best part is that it offers you a totally unique perspective on Antelope Canyon than you’d get from doing one of the expensive tours. First of all, you get to paddle through the serene water against the backdrop of huge sandstone cliffs until the canyon gets narrower and narrower. Finally, you can beach the kayaks and walk part of the slot canyon. The entire experience takes 3-4 hours to kayak Antelope Canyon, so you need to be in reasonably good shape to try this.
5. Chill at Lone Rock Beach
Lone Rock Beach at Lake Powell rivals any traditional oceanfront beach. The sand is incredibly soft and the water is quite warm in the summer. The temperature of the water reaches around 80 degrees in peak summer months. You can access the beach by boat from Wahweap Marina or you can drive up to it. Before water levels dropped, you could park any car and walk right out to the beach.
Disclaimer: Now that the water has dropped so much, you’ll need a high clearance 4WD vehicle if you want to park next to the water. Otherwise, you’ll have to walk a few hundred yards in deep, very hot sand. Not recommended. But find a way to get there and you’ll have a fantastic day relaxing at the beach.
6. Rent a UTV & Go Off-roading on a Sand Dune
If you want to combine your chill beach day with something a little more adventurous, you could rent a UTV in town and spend a couple hours off-roading in the sand. Lone Rock Beach is essentially a giant sand dune on the water, more so now because of the low water levels.
7. Best Things To Do in Page Arizona – Hike Horseshoe Bend
You’ve probably seen pictures of this famous attraction on social media as it’s skyrocketed in popularity in recent years. But for good reason! It gives you a unique view of the Colorado River with the towering cliffs it has carved over millennia. And it’s only about a 5-minute drive from the Courtyard hotel we mentioned earlier. Parking costs $10 and you need to a walk along a relatively flat, paved trail for about 3/4 of a mile to see it.
For the best pictures, you’ll want to go at sunset. It can get crowded though, so wake up early and go at sunrise instead if you want to avoid the crowds. Be careful with small kids though and hold them close – there is a small area with a fence protecting you for the overlook, but most of it us completely unprotected. One wrong step and your dream vacation one would end very tragically.
I didn’t rank-order this list of best things to do in Page Arizona, but if I did this would towards the top. Like Antelope Canyon, it’s a must-have on your bucket list.

8. Best Things To Do in Page Arizona – Hike Glen Canyon Dam Overlook
We discovered this one by accident. As we were driving down the US-89 towards Page, we randomly followed a sign that said “Scenic View”. The road takes you to a small parking lot that fits about 10 cars where you get out a follow a very short trail to the rim of the Colorado River. From there, you have incredible views of the river and the massive dam. It’s a nice alternative to Horseshoe Bend, if you don’t want to deal with paying for parking and crowds of tourists. Or just do both because they’re both cool in different ways! Just be wary of the lack of guardrails and be safe around the deadly cliffs, especially with little kids.
9. Toadstools – Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument
Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah covers a massive 1.9 million acres, so there is an endless array of things to do and landmarks to see. One of those landmarks is only 30 minutes outside Page and is an easy 1.8 mile hike. Make time to see the Toadstool Hoodoos and you won’t regret it.
10. Rainbow Bridge National Monument
This natural sandstone arch is one of the largest in the world and is a sacred place for the Navajo Nation and other Native American tribes nearby. It’s only accessible by boat but there are tours if you don’t want to make the trek on your own. From Wahweap or Antelope Point, head north. From Bullfrog, head south. Once you arrive at Forbidding Canyon, head about two miles into the canyon until you arrive at a dock where you can park the boat while you hike. From there, it’s another 2 mile hike to the arch (but again, with water levels changing, the hike may be longer).
11. Glen Canyon Dam Visitor Center
At 710 feet tall, Glen Canyon Dam is the second-highest concrete arch dam in the United States, second only to the famous Hoover Dam outside Las Vegas by a mere 16 feet. You get a good view of the dam as you drive across the bridge into Page. It’s amazing to see the lake on one side and the river hundreds of feet below on the other. You can also take a tour, if you’re interested in a Clark Griswold-esque experience.
12. Play Golf with Red Rocks Views
The Lake Powell National Golf Course not only offers a great course for all skill levels but also sweeping views of Lake Powell and the Colorado River. In fact, it might just have some of the best views in all of Page. The green grass against the red rocks is a pretty stunning combination. Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned golfer, you’ll love playing on this course. It costs $69 to play all 18 holes or 39 to play 9 holes.
13. Best Things To Do in Page Arizona – Hike Waterholes Canyon
Waterholes Canyon is another beautiful slot canyon near Page Arizona. Like Antelope Canyon, there is an Upper and Lower. The only way to access Upper Waterholes is to book a tour with Horseshoe Bend Slot Canyon Tours. To access Lower Waterholes, you need a backcountry permit.
14. John Wesley Powell Museum
Lake Powell is named after John Wesley Powell, an explorer who led two famous expeditions down the Colorado River in 1869 and 1871. The Powell Museum hosts collections of natural and cultural history from the exploration of the Colorado River and its canyons. You can learn about the life of John Wesley Powell and the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam.
15. Colorado River Tour From Lee’s Ferry
Lee’s Ferry is the only place in canyon country that you can drive right up to the Colorado River. It’s also considered the start of the Grand Canyon. It takes almost an hour to drive there from Page, as you have to head south on the US-89 until you can cross the bridge at Marble Canyon, then head back north to Lee’s Ferry. With Horseshoe Bend boat tours, a boat will haul you from Lee’s Ferry, through Horseshoe Bend towards the dam. Then you can choose to kayak or paddleboard back down river and experience the Colorado River as few tourists do. They’ll all look like tiny ants on the rim 1,000 feet above you.
16. Helicopter Ride over Lake Powell
Some of these, especially this one, are still on the bucket list for me! With Papillon helicopter tours out of the Page airport, you can opt for a Horseshoe Bend aerial tour or the Tower Butte tour, which takes you out over Lake Powell and lands you on the summit of Tower Butte. Talk about a unique, unforgettable experience!
